Sacrament of Penance

The Sacrament of Penance teaches students to be aware of their relationship with God and the people around them.  During this preparation, students learn about sin and its effects on their relationships with God and the people around them.  Learning to make peace with the people we hurt is an important part of this process.  Students learn about the 1st and 2nd Rites of Reconciliation and they practice the ritual and prayers which are part of this process.  The Sacrament of Penance gives students the opportunity to reflect on their actions, say sorry for their actions and resolve to try to be a better person who lives the Gospel values.

First Holy Communion

The word Eucharist comes from the Greek word meaning ‘thanksgiving’.  During the Sacrament of Eucharist program students explore his or her own interaction in their family and in the Church.  They further explore the themes of inclusion, ritual, celebration, thanksgiving and meals.  They learn that the celebration of the Mass includes the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist.  They learn that those who receive Holy Communion are called to be agents of change and teach others about God through their actions towards others.  The celebration of the Eucharist nourishes and nurtures us so that we are enabled to act and live with courage and commitment as disciples of Jesus in our world.

Sacrament of Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation, a sacrament of initiation, establishes young adults as full-fledged members of the Faith. This sacrament is called Confirmation because the faith given in Baptism is now confirmed and made strong. During Baptism, parents and godparents make promises to renounce Satan and believe in God and the Church on the child’s behalf. At Confirmation, the confirmation candidate personally renews those same promises.

During Confirmation, the focus is on the Holy Spirit, who confirmed the apostles at Pentecost and gave them the courage to practice their faith. Catholics believe that the same Holy Spirit confirms Catholics during the Sacrament of Confirmation and gives them the same gifts.

The seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, right judgment, fortitude (courage), knowledge, reverence, and wonder and awe. These gifts are graces given to the newly confirmed. The 12 fruits of the Holy Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control — human qualities that can be activated by the Holy Spirit.
